Pikeford Parish Council has approved plans for a new housing development comprising 120 homes after a closely watched vote at its monthly meeting. The decision passed by nine votes to four with two abstentions following extensive discussion on local needs and infrastructure capacity.

The site lies on former agricultural land north of the village centre and has been identified in the emerging local plan as suitable for residential growth. The proposal includes a mix of two three and four bedroom houses with thirty percent set aside as affordable units for local families.

The scheme incorporates road widening along the main access route new pedestrian and cycle paths and a small community green space. The developer has pledged to meet high environmental standards including energy efficient construction solar panels on every property and measures to protect nearby hedgerows and wildlife corridors. During the debate councillors raised questions about drainage capacity and the impact on existing traffic volumes.
